3D laser scan – Ava’s skull

Good morning everyone,

This weekend I was in Inverness attending the Highland Archaeology Festival RADAR conference spreading the word about the project. On Sunday morning I was fortunate to get talking to Alan and Ade from St Andrews University School of Computer Science, and the Open Virtual Worlds group. They asked if I would like them to 3D laser scan the replica beaker I had with me. I thought this was a great idea, but I asked if they might be interested in scanning something else too… Although they were a little shocked at first, both were keen to scan the 4,000 year old cranium from the original burial itself. Ade worked hard all day to create the scan, and we owe him a great deal of gratitude for making this happen! Watch this space because soon we may have some very cool related material to share: 3D laser scan of the beaker? 3D reconstruction of Ava’s full face? Who knows…
